Second round of Roadhouse to Recovery grants now open

Roadhouses, wayside inns and remote caravan parks can apply for funding of up to $150,000 to support infrastructure improvements to improve their visitor experiences.
A $4 million initiative, the NT Government will provide $3 for every $1 invested by eligible businesses. Improving amenities and experiences encourages self-drive tourists to stay additional nights in the Territory. Applications close 30 August 2021.

VEEP grants now open

Tourism businesses can apply for up to $50,000 to enhance their offerings and improve the on-ground visitor experience with Round 5 of the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program (VEEP) now open. A $3 million NT Government initiative, businesses are required to provide a minimum matching cash co-contribution.

Local tips with The Get Outsiders

Following the success of the third series of The Get Outsiders which featured local travel tips on the Red Centre, Tourism NT has launched a fourth series giving the inside scoop on more of the Territory’s destinations.

Livin' Local winners showcase the NT

Territorians overwhelmingly backed the Livin’ Local social media photo competition. More than 1000 entries were received, showcasing the natural beauty of the Red Centre and Top End.

Alice Springs local Becky Page-Wood and Darwin resident Sarsha Sheriff submitted picture perfect entries and both won a $4000 holiday voucher to spend in the Territory.

Darwin welcomes new airline route

Darwin welcomed the first new domestic airline route since COVID-19 restrictions began, with direct flights now available between Canberra and Darwin. Flights will operate 5 days a week by Alliance Airlines’ E190 jets during the Territory’s peak tourism season and the ACT/NSW ski season.

Chartair offers twice-weekly service

Chartair has commenced twice-weekly services each Monday and Friday between Alice Springs and Ayers Rock Airport. The service offers a convenient option for tourists, business travellers and locals to fly directly between the two towns.

Brendan Heenan awarded OAM

Congratulations to Brendan Heenan, owner of the MacDonnell Range Holiday Park, Chairman of the Northern Territory Caravan Parks Association, previous winner of Tourism NT’s Brolga Awards and life member of Tourism Central Australia for being awarded a Member of the Order of Australia as part of the Queen’s Birthday 2021 Honours List.

International student wellbeing recipients
Local businesses, student groups and community organisations were invited to apply for up to $10,000 in funding as part of the 2020-21 International Student Wellbeing grants.

Twenty six highly motivated students were chosen as part of the StudyNT Student Ambassador program. The program has been running since 2016, recognising outstanding international and domestic students studying in Australia’s Northern Territory.

Battery Hill tours recommence

Underground mine tours have recommenced at Battery Hill Mining Centre located on the historic Gold Stamp Battery overlooking the township of Tennant Creek. Tours operate from 10am and 2pm daily. Learn about underground mining in the 1930’s, the last Australian gold rush and experience firsthand the life of a miner.
