NT cruise ship season starts early!

The NT cruise season kicked off early with the arrival of the Coral Princess in Darwin on Wednesday carrying nearly 1,889 passengers. 
The 2024-25 season is set to be the Northern Territory’s biggest yet, surpassing last year’s record when Darwin welcomed 105 ships, boosting local jobs and businesses!

2024 International Student Awards

Nominations open on 2 September! These awards honour outstanding international students, alumni, and the local businesses that support them. International students can also nominate their employers for the Employer of the Year award.

Manton Dam rec area closure

As part of the Manton Dam Return to Service project, the dam wall area and the rest area adjacent to the Stuart Highway are now closed to the public.

Manton Dam boat ramp and recreational area will also close from 9 to 13 September 2024.

Tourists are advised to drive carefully and consider alternative rest areas along the Stuart Highway.

India Trade Famil

Tourism NT recently hosted three key distribution partners from India in a five-day itinerary to the Top End. Delegates enjoyed a range of product in Darwin and Kakadu National Park, and access from Asia was showcased with delegates flying from India to Darwin via Singapore. India is a very important market for Australia and is currently ranked the 5th largest inbound market nationally.    

Distribution Grant Program

NT tourism businesses can now apply for funding to enhance their distribution strategies, including online booking systems, translation services and contracting expert advice to assist with international distribution planning into the NT’s emerging markets (China, Japan and Singapore).

Learn how to master your digital communications, with Tourism NT and PR expert Kate Dinning.Kate will provide you with the tools to make managing your social media easier, explain why collaboration is beneficial and what to do when something goes wrong.

Global Connect

In October, Tourism NT is hosting the annual Global Connect, bringing our international representatives to the Northern Territory. There are several opportunities for industry engagement as part of the roadshow with events in Darwin and Alice Springs. This year operators working in the international space have the opportunity to present to the international teams and seek advice and input relevant to their business. Registrations essential.

Tourism Australia’s NT spotlight month - webinar with Singapore

Tourism NT’s International Trade team were thrilled to host a ‘live cross’ in Darwin’s Waterfront Precinct for Tourism Australia’s August webinar with a spotlight on the NT. Co-hosted by Tourism NT’s Singapore reps, as well as Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Program Trainers for Singapore, the live cross webinar was delivered to a highly engaged audience, with record attendance of 165 participants across Malaysia and Singapore. 

Tour guide training support

Tourism NT is offering up to $5,000 for businesses to train or upskill tour guides with the aim to build a strong and capable tour guide workforce in the NT.

Tourism Town Asset Program

Applications are now open for the Tourism Town Asset Program Round 4, a great program designed to assist local councils secure funding towards creating welcoming public spaces that support tourism and destination priorities, including Destination Management Plan projects.

Profiles have been updated with information to the year ending December 2023 - use these insights to elevate your 2024 Brolga Awards submission.

Aboriginal talent on display in big week of national events

Australia’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, music and cultural events were on display in Darwin from t9-11 August in a jam-packed weekend, attracting people from across the country to the region. Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards and the National Indigenous Music Awards showcased stunning artwork, musicianship and culture with the public invited to be a part of the action. The events were supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company's event funding program.

Million Dollar Fish Season 10 registrations opening

Australia’s richest fishing competition is set to return for Season 10. Registrations, which are free, open this Sunday 1 September 2024.Season 10 begins on 1 October 2024, meaning keen anglers have a month to register and plan their fishing trips before they can drop a line in the hope of reeling in a red-tagged barramundi. This year marks 10 years of the popular competition. Registrations open Sunday here.

Red CentreNATS

Red CentreNATS returns to Alice Springs this Father’s Day weekend with a jam-packed program, celebrating 10 years of the Ultimate Festival of Wheels. Red CentreNATS is one of the most unique motorsport events in Australia and has been bringing enthusiasts to the heart of Australia for a decade. This is a massive year of celebration for the car festival, which starts today (Friday 30 August) and runs until Sunday 1 September.

Alice Springs Masters Games 

The countdown is on for the Alice Springs Masters Games’ (ASMG) return to Central Australia with the event to take place in less than two months, from 12-19 October 2024. The ASMG, which began in 1986, is the second oldest Masters Games in the world and is a fun and inclusive sporting competition that will also provide an opportunity to explore the stunning Red Centre from the rich history in Alice Springs to the stunning MacDonnell Ranges. You can still be a part of the Games with registrations closing on 13 September.
