Tourism business support programs closing 31 October 2021

The Visitation Reliant Small Business Support Program and the Tourism Survival Fund have been extended to 31 October 2021. These business support packages are designed to support tourism, hospitality and event businesses impacted by COVID-19 restrictions.

The Visitation Reliant Small Business Support Program is for small business that have experienced mass cancellations due to interstate lockdowns and travel restrictions.
Under the co-funded program eligible employing businesses will receive a $3,000 payment while non-employing businesses, including sole traders will receive a $1,000 payment.

The Tourism Survival Fund is designed to support touring companies, professional conference organisers and exhibition build companies impacted by the lack of international visitors and who have not benefited from tourism vouchers. Under the scheme, businesses will be able to access payments between $5,000 and $30,000 depending on their annual turnover which must be less than $10 million.

2021 Brolga Awards tickets on sale

Tickets to the 2021 Northern Territory Tourism Brolga Awards are now on sale. This year's event will be at the Darwin Convention Centre on Saturday 13 November 2021.

Save and Learn program insights

The NT Learning Adventures (NTLA) Save and Learn program offers funding to eligible interstate school groups, providing an incentive to book and travel to the NT with their students. The program gathers valuable data on schools' travel and booking behaviour. A factsheet has been prepared to share insights from the program with industry, showing financial year data from participating schools. More information on the data can be found here

Refreshed education tourism imagery

Professional photoshoots were recently completed in the Top End and the Red Centre, to refresh the education tourism image assets for the sector. 170+ new images are now available for NT operators, education travel agents and other stakeholders to use for the positive promotion of education tourism in the Northern Territory. Aviation update

QantasLink has announced two new routes between Darwin and Far North Queensland. The airline will operate three weekly services using its Embraer E190 aircraft on the Townsville – Darwin route from 31 January 2022, and the Cairns – Darwin route from 29 March 2022.

This is in addition to Qantas’ earlier announcement that it will bring forward the restart of its international flights to 1 November 2021. This includes a Sydney to London route that will operate via Darwin.

VEEP grant recipients announced

The Northern Territory Government has awarded 54 Territory Tourism businesses more than $1.5 million in grant funding under round five of the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program.

Territory Tourism Vouchers Round 4

Round 4 of the popular Territory Tourism Vouchers opened on 4 October with Territorians snapping up vouchers in record time! Valued up to $200 the vouchers can be used on multiple tourism experiences in the Top End, Red Centre, Katherine and Barkly regions.

Visitor visas go online

From 30 September 2021 all applicants from outside Australia in any stream must apply via their online ImmiAccount.
Applicants applying for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) in Australia in the Tourist stream may lodge their application online via ImmiAccount or by posting their application to the Sydney office.
From early 2022 (phase 2), all applicants applying for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) in Australia in the Tourist stream must lodge their application online via ImmiAccount.

Accommodation Book Now grants

Territory hotels, motels, wayside inns and caravan parks can apply for funding to implement an online booking platform making it easier for drive visitors to the NT to plan their holiday.

Work, Stay, Play incentive extended

The Work, Stay, Play incentive has been extended until 5pm, 31 December 2021 to further support hospitality, aged care and agriculture businesses attract workers to the Territory. Offering payments to reimburse new workers to help cover the cost associated with moving into a new job as well as payments for new employees, eligible business are able to claim up to $60,000.
