All roads lead to the NT with latest tourism campaigns

Earlier this month Tourism NT launched two national tourism marketing campaigns targeting Australians intending to travel domestically in 2023 with its latest Seek Different brand campaign and those wanting a driving holiday with its Road Trip Differently drive campaign.

The campaigns are in market across Australia running up to May 2023 with cinema, television and print advertising, in addition to promotions on social, digital, search and YouTube channels.

Tourism Towards 2030 conference

The NT tourism industry gathered in strong numbers for the annual Tourism Towards 2030 conference held in Alice Springs and Darwin this week, with more than 150 registered in Alice Springs and approximately 250 attending in Darwin.

Support for Central Australian tourism industry

The Northern Territory Government is making further investments into Central Australian tourism to bolster the industry, create jobs and encourage visitors to the region. Included in the funding is a $1 million dollar brand and trade campaign dedicated to the Red Centre, to drive interstate visitation in 2023.

Tourism NT's latest domestic brand campaign Seek Different is in maket Australia-wide up to early May 2023. Positioning the NT as a destination that's Different in every sense the campaign aims to inspire Australians to visit the NT for their next holiday. Watch the Seek Different campaign video.

New walk for Watarrka National Park

A brand new multi-million dollar outback hiking experience in Central Australia is one step closer, delivering job opportunities and a new tourism experience in Central Australia.

With the Project Facilitation Agreement signed, The Watarrka Track, located 330 kilometres south west of Alice Springs is set to be one of Australia’s most scenic multi-day walking experiences.

Industry sentiment poll available

The quarterly tourism industry sentiment poll for the December quarter 2022 is now available. The poll is conducted every 3 months to gain insights and help us to continue to develop initiatives and programs to assist the Northern Territory’s tourism industry. Operator sentiment across all regions in regards to their own business and regional outlook was positive for the next 12 months.

Monthly accommodation reports

The accommodation reports for Darwin, Alice Springs and the NT for December 2022 are now available. The reports include data from short term letting along with the hotel sector. The short term letting market is evolving rapidly and information is sourced from the AirDNA platform which collects data from 613 listed properties in Darwin and 68 in Alice Springs on both Airbnb and Vbro sites.

Visitor economy to benefit from work bonus changes

To assist address skills shortages, the Australian Government has increased the maximum Work Bonus income balance by $4,000 (to $11,800) until 31 December 2023, meaning pensioners can earn more from employment income during this period without affecting their pension.

Hospitality NT - Work Play Explore

Hospitality NT’s United Kingdom and Ireland delegation has kicked off in the UK with an initial focus on engagement with universities as well as exhibiting at Career Fairs. The delegation is promoting the NT as the ultimate destination to work, play and explore with students from Leeds Beckett University and University of Chester welcoming the delegation. Next is pop-up events at the Newcastle Careers Fair, Sheffield Hallem University Careers Fair and Northampton Careers Fair.

Unlocking Aboriginal Tourism Development Funding

Tourism NT is providing a total of up to $50,000 (excluding GST) in consultancy services to Aboriginal owned tourism related business operators to help access opportunities and unlock potential funding. This program aims to assist businesses to navigate and access funding opportunities from a broad range of philanthropic and government funding opportunities available for the Aboriginal tourism sector.

Aboriginal Tourism Development Support grants

Aboriginal Territorians and Aboriginal owned businesses and organisations can apply for funding support to develop Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences and products that encourage visitors to travel to the NT and stay longer. A non-competitive funding pool of $200,000 is available for applications from $10,000 up to $30,000 for professional services and feasibility studies.

Book Now grants

The Book Now grant program supports NT tourism businesses to establish an online booking system integrated on an existing website or establish a turnkey website that features a booking system. Tourism businesses can apply for up to $2,500, with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Domestic Distribution grants

This grant program supports NT tourism businesses to increase their product offerings in domestic distribution. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 up to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

This grant program is designed to ensure NT tourism businesses are ready for the international tourism market. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Qantas Regional grants 2023

The Qantas Regional Grants program is back, offering $10 million in support over five years to Australian-based communities and projects that are looking to benefit our country’s regional areas. Entry is open to Australian based individuals, not-for-profit community groups and organisations of any size, who are seeking funding to help enhance the lives of people in regional communities. Applications are open now and close 10 May 2023.

The Australian Government has announced Round 3 of the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) will open 15 March 2023 and close 14 April 2023. EMDG grant guidelines and supporting documents are available now for applicants to prepare ahead.

2023 Northern Territory Cruise Forum

Tourism NT in partnership with Tourism Top End are pleased to announce the 2023 Northern Territory Cruise Forum to be held at Vibe Hotel Darwin Waterfront on Monday 17 April 2023. The purpose of the forum is to bring together tourism operators, cruise ship ground handlers and local stakeholders to discuss how we can work together to enhance the onshore passenger experience.

Gold Coast SUNS tickets on sale

Tickets for the two Gold Coast SUNS AFL matches in Darwin are on sale now. The SUNS will face Western Bulldogs at TIO Stadium on Saturday, 27 May, followed by a clash against Adelaide Crows the following Saturday. Two consecutive games gives fans a great excuse to travel to the Territory for a holiday, benefiting the economy.

fabAlice returns to the Red Centre

Taking place from 9-12 March, the fabALICE 2023 program features cabaret, comedy, drag, open mic, fashion and music, plus plenty of new additions all set against the glittering natural landscape of Alice Springs. Independent research on the 2021 event, which generated $505,000 in economic stimulus, showed 11 per cent of festival attendees came from interstate.

Record breaking Million Dollar Fish season

Season 8 of Million Dollar Fish, underwritten by SportsBet, has now seen 17 fish caught and $180,000 paid out to lucky fishos, smashing all records. Australia’s richest fishing competition helps attract interstate visitors, with Season 7 delivering more than 100,000 visitor nights and a total expenditure stimulus of $47.3 million for the NT.

Parrtjima 2023 program launched

The music and talks program for Parrtjima 2023 is out, and promises a busy 10 nights of free entertainment in the Red Centre, from 7-16 April. The rest of the program, which includes interactive workshops and films, will be released in coming weeks. In 2022, Parrtjima visitors clocked up a total of 34,627 visitor nights in the Territory.
