Summer Done Differently - Tourism NT's new summer campaign

From 4 July to 16 October 2023, the Northern Territory’s Summer campaign will inspire Australians to seek a different kind of summer and to book travel between September 2023 and March 2024 with enticing NT summer travel deals.

The Territory Aviation Scheme is now live

Territory airports have the opportunity to apply for a share of $10 million in government funding, to be matched dollar-for-dollar by the applicant as a co-contribution, bringing the full value of the scheme to $20 million.


Grants will be available to eligible airports for the creation of new routes, and to provide extra capacity on existing routes in both Alice Springs and Ayers Rock airports.

Voyages on show in Tokyo & Osaka

Tourism NT conducted its first face to face Japan training seminar events in Osaka and Tokyo in June.

92 travel agents and various trade media participated in the event designed to highlight the NT to key partners and to promote the new Wintjiri Wiru experience at Uluru.

Aboriginal Tourism Grant Round 5

Earlier this month six organisations were awarded funding valued at $502,943.08 for projects that will deliver new Aboriginal cultural tourism products, grow the range of visitor experiences and encourage visitors to travel to the NT and stay longer.
Of the successful applications, three were in the Top End and three in the Central Australia region.
The next round of grants will open in September 2023.

NT on display in new SBS series

Alice Springs, Uluru, Kakadu and Darwin, will feature in Adam and Poh’s Great Australian Bites premiering on SBS, 8 August 2023. Renowned Australian chefs, Adam Liaw and Poh Ling Yeow, hit the road to explore Australia’s iconic dishes during the eight part series, commencing their journey in the very heart of Australia, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.

Tourism Distribution Grant Program

The 2023/24 Tourism Distribution Grant Program is designed to increase online book-ability and actively aid connection with distribution partners to enhance trade relationships with domestic and international partners. The program offers flexibility to best support Territory tourism businesses specific needs and their focus area for distribution growth.

Two weeks left to enter the NT Brolga Awards

There is only two weeks left to enter this year’s NT Brolgas Awards.
Entering the Brolgas is even better this year, with two lucky businesses in with a chance to win a media pack valued at $2,500 each. Terms and conditions apply.
That's not all! An added bonus for the 2023 awards program is business category winners (categories 1-26) will also receive a media pack valued at $5,000 each to further promote their business.
Entry to the Brolga Awards is free and nominations are obligation free.

Latest visitation results out now

The year ending March results show strong demand with visitor numbers coming back, although still behind pre-pandemic levels. As at YE March 2023, NT welcomed 1.7 million visitors, up 35% from the same period in 2022. Visitor expenditure over the same period continued at high levels, with over $3.0 billion in visitor spend in the NT.

New accommodation dashboard

Tourism NT has been working with Tourism Research Australia to develop new research dashboards. An accommodation dashboard displaying short-term letting and hotel data for the NT is now available. The data is updated monthly and will display all accommodation trends across the Territory.

NT Tourism Industry Strategy 2030 briefing

Scott Lovett, Deputy CEO Tourism NT, invites the NT tourism industry and stakeholders to a briefing of the draft NT Tourism Industry Strategy 2030 (T2030) update together with an industry networking event.

T2030 has recently undergone a three-yearly review, which will be published as the Northern Territory’s Tourism Industry Strategy 2030 update. The T2030 update includes revised visitor and expenditure targets, new supply-side targets and three new key themes for focus in the current and next phases of the Strategy.

The T2030 update relies on industry and government working together towards the sustainable growth of tourism in the Northern Territory. Please join our Deputy CEO in one of six briefings to be held at the below locations:

  • 14 August: Katherine
  • 16 August: Tennant Creek
  • 17 August: Alice Springs
  • 18 August: Yulara
  • 21 August: Nhulunbuy
  • 22 August: Darwin and online

Entrant support – NT Brolga Awards

Additional entrant support is now on offer for businesses entering this year’s Brolga Awards. Businesses can access the following support:

  • One on one mentoring appointments

  • Webinars presented by Karina Groth – Tourism Business Solutions

  • Videos and fact sheets

  • Entrants guides

  • Up to 1 hour per business for a submission mock review

  • Up to 2 hours of proof reading for spelling, typos and basic grammar.

Tour Guide Ready - Round 3 now open

Up to $5,000 is available for NT-based tour operators (applicants) who conduct tours in the Northern Territory to train new tour guides (entrants). The program is designed to streamline training for entrants and offers flexibility. This is an open non-competitive grant and applications will be assessed as received. Applications close 29 February 2024.

Desert Harmony Festival

The Barkly Regional Arts Desert Harmony Festival returns to Tennant Creek with a remarkable line-up of talent, showcasing the best of local and interstate artists.


The festival, now in its 34th year promises to deliver a diverse and captivating program including performances from award winning artists such as Gumbaynggirr/Yamatji woman Emma Donovan, Arnhem Land rockers the Ripple Effect Band and Pitjantjatjara songman Frank Yamma.
