Territory tourism shines bright on national stage

Northern Territory tourism and hospitality operators have been awarded a swag of medals with two gold, two silver and four bronze at the 2022 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, putting the Territory on the map when it comes exceptional experiences.

VEEP Round 6 Grants open

The NT Government is backing in tourism and hospitality operators with the latest round of the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program (VEEP) opening this month to help businesses upgrade their facilities and entice tourists to the Territory. Applications close 14 April 2023.

World Indigenous Tourism Summit 2023
More than 30 Aboriginal tourism businesses and Traditional Owners from the Northern Territory attended the World Indigenous Tourism Summit 2023 in Perth WA this month. The Summit attracted over 500+ delegates from 21 countries from diverse parts of the tourism industry, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous tourism interests, academics, government representatives and youth.

Tourism NT hosts Singapore Trade Mission

The Northern Territory was promoted as a key tourism destination in Singapore this month as part of the Northern Territory Government’s Singapore tourism trade mission. Hosted by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade the NT tourism delegation included Tourism NT, Tourism Top End and 10 tourism and hospitality operators.

Get Paid to do this! New WHM campaign

The Northern Territory Government is rolling out its new 2023 Working Holiday Maker campaigns to attract hospitality and tourism workers ahead of the Territory’s peak visitor season. Launched nationwide, the Get paid to do this! working holiday maker campaign is targeting young working holiday makers already in Australia, while NT Backpacking Academy is set to launch in the UK and Germany on 1 April.

Connecting Industry with Local Producers

Hospitality NT teamed up with Farmers NT to host a ‘Meet & Greet’ at Rapid Creek Markets as part of an industry development partnership with Tourism NT. Connections made from this event will see more local produce like the beautiful butterfly pea flower make its way on to menus in the Top End.

The Northern Territory’s official tourism awards program, the Brolga Awards recognise and encourage NT tourism businesses that strive for excellence in all areas of their operations, with the winners in the running to win an Australian Tourism Award.

First Nations Tourism Mentoring Program

The First Nations Tourism Mentoring Program is a new, free mentoring program for First Nations tourism businesses across Australia, matching businesses with skilled and experienced mentors. As visitors return to Australia, the program will provide culturally appropriate, one-on-one mentoring to First Nations tourism businesses across the country. Applications for mentors and mentees are now open.

Unlocking Aboriginal Tourism Development Funding

Tourism NT is providing a total of up to $50,000 (excluding GST) in consultancy services to Aboriginal owned tourism related business operators to help access opportunities and unlock potential funding. This program aims to assist businesses to navigate and access funding opportunities from a broad range of philanthropic and government funding opportunities available for the Aboriginal tourism sector.

Aboriginal Tourism Development Support Grant Program

Aboriginal Territorians and Aboriginal owned businesses and organisations can apply for funding support to develop Aboriginal cultural tourism experiences and products that encourage visitors to travel to the NT and stay longer. A non-competitive funding pool of $200,000 is available for applications from $10,000 up to $30,000 for professional services and feasibility studies.

Recreational Fishing Grants

Fishing clubs, fishing organisations, Traditional Land Owners, incorporated bodies and businesses can apply for a recreational fishing grant. Eligible organisations can apply for small grants of up to $15,000, or large grants up to $100,000, for finite projects and activities that directly improve recreational fishing experiences and opportunities in the Territory. Applications close 15 April 2023.

Registrations are now open for the NT Cruise Forum

Tourism NT in partnership with Tourism Top End and the Top End Visitor Information Centre are pleased to announce the 2023 Northern Territory Cruise Forum – enriching the onshore experience. The forum will be held on Monday 17 April at the Vibe Hotel Darwin Waterfront.

The purpose of the forum is to bring together local stakeholders to provide an update on the state of the cruise industry and look at how we can work together to enrich the passengers' onshore experience.

PARRTJIMA SHINES INTERSTATE

For the first time ever, Parrtjima – A Festival in Light travelled interstate recently, with the famous Grounded installation lighting up Melbourne’s Federation Square from 11-12 March. Providing Victorians with a taste of what to expect when Parrtjima illuminates the Red Centre from 7-16 April, coverage of the activation reached an audience of approximately 3.5 million. The much-loved Wide Open Space Festival returns to the Red Centre from 28-30 April, with a packed line-up including performances, art, workshops and desert culture.
