Industry Sentiment poll

The quarterly tourism industry sentiment poll is now open. The poll is conducted every 3 months to gain insights and help us to continue to develop initiatives and programs to assist the Northern Territory’s tourism industry. Visitor survey results

Results for year ending September 2022 visitation showed combined results were positive, with 1.46 million visitors contributing over $2.6 billion in visitor expenditure. Of this, domestic visitors accounted for over 1.4 million, while international visitors showed a slow return with 44,000 coming to the NT over the period.

Aboriginal tourism projects underway

A new visitor entry for the Arltunga Bush Pub & Eco Retreat, tourism feasibility studies for Arnhem Land homelands of Rocky Point,

Ji-Bena and Djinkarr and a new self-catering accommodation option for Gurrambalk are just 3 of 10 new Aboriginal tourism projects underway with funding support from the Aboriginal Tourism Grant Program Round 4. The program aims to support Aboriginal owned businesses develop and activate new bookable Aboriginal cultural tourism products.

The Qantas Sydney WorldPride Regional Grants program launched last week. This grant provides grant provides opportunities for LGBTQIA+ individuals who reside in regional Australia to engage with and attend the 2023 Festival and Mardi Gras Parade.

Book Now grants

The Book Now grant program supports NT tourism businesses to establish an online booking system integrated on an existing website or establish a turnkey website that features a booking system. Tourism businesses can apply for up to $2,500, with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Domestic Distribution grants

The Domestic Distribution grant program supports NT tourism businesses to increase their product offerings in domestic distribution. Funding is available to contract advice to price product, determine distribution potential, assist with planning, packaging, product alignment or undertake domestic sales calls with travel trade. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 up to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

International Distribution grants

This grant program is designed to ensure NT tourism businesses are ready for the international tourism market. Funding is available to contract advice to price product with suitable rates including commission, determine distribution potential, receive advice on international marketing plans or to develop an export marketing plan. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Tourism NT and Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism Top End and Tourism Central Australia are pleased to present the annual Towards 2030 Conference in Alice Springs on Tuesday 21 February and Darwin on Thursday 23 February 2023.

Red CentreNATS drives benefits

Australia’s Ultimate Festival of Wheels has driven huge social and economic benefits for the Red Centre. Independent research found Red CentreNATS 2022 generated a total expenditure stimulus in the Territory of $6.9 million – a huge 90 per cent ($6.2 million) of this was new money. Car fans also clocked up more than 20,000 visitor nights, filling up hotels and booking out tourism experiences.

BASSINTHEGRASS 2023 tickets on sale

Final release tickets for the Territory’s biggest and best all-ages music festival, BASSINTHEGRASS, have been rolled out. Thousands of tickets have already been snapped up for the 2023 event at Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach on 20 May. BASSINTHEGRASS completely sold out in 2019, 2021 and 2022, attracting thousands of music fans to the city from all corners of the country.

The next round of the Northern Territory Major Events Company Event Funding Program opens on Monday, 6 February 2023, with five categories open for applications. The most recent round of funding saw 39 new and established events share in $2.4 million.
