Celebrate the 2022 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards

The NT tourism industry’s night of nights, the 2022 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards will be held in Alice Springs on Saturday 12 November 2022 at the Alice Springs Convention Centre. Join industry colleagues to recognise and celebrate the achievements of NT tourism businesses. Featuring live entertainment, canapes and drinks on arrival, a three course meal and beverage package, book your tickets today. Ticket sales close Thursday 3 November 2022.

New tourism campaign targeting New Zealanders

Tourism NT launched a new tourism campaign in New Zealand this month to encourage travel to the NT. Highlighting the Territory’s unique tourism offerings, from our rich culture and history to breathtaking landscapes and spectacular wildlife, the campaign is aimed at High Value Travellers and is in market from October to June 2023.

Ocean cruise liners welcomed back to the NT

The Northern Territory welcomed ocean cruise liners back to Territory waters with the arrival of the Coral Princess cruise ship on 20 October, a major boost for our tourism and hospitality industry. With capacity for 1,970 passengers, the cruise liner received a warm Darwin welcome for its maiden visit, which included an official plaque exchange between the ship and Darwin Port.

Territory tourism operators muster the East Coast

Twenty-four Territory tourism operators alongside local Darwin performers The Youth Mill showcased NT tourism products to domestic travel consultants, product managers, inbound tour operators and online travel agents in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney earlier this month as part of NT Muster 2022. Tourism NT’s domestic annual trade show reached 370 agents and wholesalers based on the East Coast.

Growing the education tourism market

A group of teachers and education travel agents from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria have completed a week-long tour of Central Australia as part of Tourism NT’s efforts to diversify and grow the education tourism market. The NT Learning Adventures familiarisation tour featured tourism businesses working in the education tourism sector across Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs.

Accessible tourism plan

Discover how your business may already be accessible. It is estimated that 20% of Australian adults have a disability or long term heath condition. Accessible infrastructure enables greater travel opportunities to a market that spends an estimated $3.2 billion annually. Tourism NT’s aspirations are to showcase the Territory as an inclusive and accessible destination and increase the Territory’s accessible product offering. What we are doing and how to get involved is outlined in our accessible tourism plan.

Darwin Convention Centre Hotel EOI

Expressions of Interest (EOI) will open soon to develop a Darwin Convention Centre Hotel, part of the first stage in the redesigned Darwin Waterfront Masterplan. The Darwin Convention Centre Hotel will provide new, upscale accommodation options for corporate and leisure visitors; and drive growth in high yield corporate and convention markets.

Book Now grants

The Book Now grant program supports NT tourism businesses to establish an online booking system integrated on an existing website or establish a turnkey website that features a booking system. Tourism businesses can apply for up to $2,500, with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Domestic Distribution grants

The Domestic Distribution grant program supports NT tourism businesses to increase their product offerings in domestic distribution. Funding is available to contract advice to price product, determine distribution potential, assist with planning, packaging, product alignment or undertake domestic sales calls with travel trade. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 up to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

International Distribution grants

This grant program is designed to ensure NT tourism businesses are ready for the international tourism market. Funding is available to contract advice to price product with suitable rates including commission, determine distribution potential, receive advice on international marketing plans or to develop an export marketing plan. NT tourism operators can apply for grants from $1,000 to $5,000 with a matched funding contribution required. This is a non-competitive grant with businesses able to submit applications up to 30 April 2023 or until funding is fully subscribed.

Central Australia Events Week

Tourism Central Australia are holding a series of free event management workshops and classes from 7-10 November to upskill and learn more about the events industry. Facilitated by Krista Hauritz, Director of Krista Hauritz Tourism + Marketing + Events, workshops include creating a business plan, funding and grant writing, marketing, the power of partnerships, and event experience development. A limited number of one-on-one mentoring sessions will also be available as well as a networking opportunity for event organisers to connect with tourism operators, followed by a panel of guest speakers.

SUBMIT EOI TO ATTTEND

NT Aboriginal Tourism Forum

The inaugural Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Forum will be held in Darwin on Thursday, 17 November 2022. The forum aims to support implementation of the Aboriginal Tourism Strategy’s five strategic pillars; celebrate the NT Aboriginal tourism sector; encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences; and provide an environment to establish and strengthen relationships between Aboriginal entrepreneurs, the private sector, industry, government and non-government organisations. Numbers are limited.

Red-tagged fish frenzy

Australia’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish, has delivered a record-breaking start for Season 8 with 10 fishos sharing $110,000 of prize money in the first month. Season 7 bagged a record-breaking $47.3 million total expenditure stimulus for the Territory, and Season 8, which runs until 31 March 2023, promises to be another massive catch.

Hockey champs on the way

The Top End will host the 2023 Hockey Australia U15 Championships from 15-21 April next year, bringing the best young hockey talent and their support teams from around Australia to Darwin. Teams from every jurisdiction are expected to take part in the national event.

Supercars delivers for the Territory

Independent research shows the 2022 Darwin Triple Crown Supercars Indigenous Round delivered a total expenditure stimulus of $28.4 million for the Territory, including $21.3 million of new money. The supercharged event will return next year, with dates to be announced soon.
