DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL VISITOR NUMBERS

The latest visitor data released by Tourism Research Australia for both international and domestic visitors to the NT for the year ending March 2019 shows a 9 per cent increase with a total of 1.95 million visitors. Holiday visitation increased by 10 per cent with 906,000 visitors.

KAKADU ON VIRGIN AUSTRALIA COVER 

The picturesque Gunlom Falls, a popular location in Kakadu National Park, graces the front cover of the new-look Virgin Australia Magazine this month. Previously known as Virgin Australia Voyeur, the in-flight magazine celebrates the Park's 40th anniversary, with a feature on park activities including the flora and fauna that tourists can experience. 

PACIFIC DAWN IN DARWIN

The Pacific Dawn is visiting Darwin on Monday 5 August with over 2000 passengers and crew members and will return for an overnight stay on Saturday 31 August.

JOIN THE TERRITORY ARTS TRAIL

The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture is expanding the visitor offerings on the Territory Arts Trail. The Territory Arts Trail is a tourism initiative raising awareness of the Territory as a premier global destination to visit for distinctive art and culture experiences.

We are always looking to add more visitor-ready art and culture experiences to the Arts Trail and have now expanded the selection criteria to include organisations and businesses where:

  • 50% of product or experience is arts related; or 

  • 50% of product or experience has an Aboriginal arts or cultural focus

LONG-TERM BUSINESS EVENTS STRATEGY

The Northern Territory Government has released its first Long-term Business Events Strategy.

The Strategy will guide the growth of the NT business events sector for the next 10 years and beyond, and is part of the Turbocharging Tourism initiative. The aim of the Strategy is that by 2030, business events will be delivering $68 million in delegate expenditure to the Territory economy.

NEW FISHING THE WILD SERIES

A stunning new 15-episode online series is set to showcase extraordinary Territory landscapes and experiences to a global audience. Fishing the Wild: Northern Territory was produced by Darwin production company Run for the Hills and follows the adventures of Territorians Morgan Hartney and Hamish Simpson (Morgs and Simmo) as they scout out some of the NT's best fishing spots. The trailer, launched on YouTube on 7 June, was viewed by more than 10,000 people in its first week.

BROLGA AWARD NOMINATIONS

We had a chat with Melanie Lewis, General Manager of Palms City Resort and President of Skal International Darwin, about the Brolga Award's nomination process. Melanie discusses the process of nominating a staff member for an Individual Brolga Award and the benefits to staff morale, staff recognition, and of course getting to celebrate with your peers on the night. VEEP ROUND 3 - APPLY NOW

As part of TURBO2, Round 3 of the Visitor Experience Enhancement Program (VEEP) is now open for applications. VEEP seeks to enable the tourism industry to improve its customer experience so that more visitors have positive experiences and will recommend the NT to others. Round 3 has $1.5 million of funding with up to $50,000 available per business. Applications close 1 October 2019.

EVENT FUNDING AVAILABLE

Round 1 of the 2019/20 Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) event funding and industry development programs is currently open. Providing four types of funding including community festivals, event development, marketing and strategic development funding the program provides support to events that contribute to the liveability of the Territory, promote our rich history and culture, and showcase the NT. Round 1 applications close 9 August 2019.

INBOUND NT & ADVENTURE NT 

Tourism NT is inviting NT operators to participate in two of the Northern Territory's major international and inbound trade events in Alice Springs.

Inbound NT will bring up to 30 product managers and consultants to Alice Springs for a Business-to-Business (B2B) workshop, networking events and famils on 5 September 2019.

Adventure NT is a biennial event that will bring up to 30 key distribution partners from Greater China to Alice Springs for a B2B workshop, networking events and famils on 6 September 2019.

Tourism NT is again partnering with TripAdvisor to promote the Northern Territory and experiences across this global platform. The first Experience Flash Sales will be live from 18 September to 2 October 2019. Tourism operators with a bookable TripAdvisor listing have the opportunity to be involved and highlighted in the sale.
